RDCRS receives full construction funding for new Kindergarten to Grade 5 school in Blackfalds

Earlier today we had the opportunity to share some incredibly exciting news with the Blackfalds community!

This afternoon, we officially announced that Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools (RDCRS) has received full construction funding from the Government of Alberta for a brand-new Kindergarten to Grade 5 school in the heart of the rapidly expanding community of Blackfalds!

Adriana LaGrange, MLA for Red Deer North and Minister of Health, expressed her enthusiasm, stating, "This marks a significant milestone in our commitment to providing top-notch educational infrastructure. We are dedicated to ensuring our students have access to modern and innovative learning environments."

The need for this new school comes in response to the tremendous growth Blackfalds has experienced in recent years. Our current school in Blackfalds, St. Gregory the Great Catholic School, has seen a 64% increase since its inception in 2017, highlighting the urgent need for more educational space to accommodate our young learners.

Thanks to this funding, we can look forward to offering an even better educational experience, meeting the learning needs of Blackfalds students more effectively.

RDCRS Board Chair Murray Hollman expressed gratitude for the funding, emphasizing the opportunity it presents to build a school that truly meets the community's needs.

With schematic designs already in progress and collaborations ongoing to secure the perfect site, we are on track for the new school's doors to open in September 2027.
