Religious Education

Our schools have the unique educational purpose of presenting a Catholic world view to their students. A Catholic worldview is a way of looking at the world through a Catholic Church lens. This worldview is derived from Catholic Church teachings, scripture and Catholic Church traditions. These teachings, scripture and traditions form the basis of what is taught in Catholic schools.

All students attending our schools participate in religious education programs approved by the Alberta Bishops. Our Grades 1 to 8 students use the Growing in Faith, Growing in Christ program. Kindergarten, along with our Grade 9 students, uses the "Born of the Spirit" resource. There is a Grade 9 program currently being piloted in some of our schools. This program has been written for use in the province of Alberta and has been vetted through our provincial Bishops and CCSSA. Students in Grades 10 to 12 follow the "Go and Make Disciples: Living the Great Commission" program (an additional service component is included in Religious Education 35). An optional course for high school is Religions of the World 35.
